Downtown mainstay Harry's Bar is undergoing a facelift. The long-running nightspot is abandoning its fine dining concept and becoming a boutique dance club.

"Yeah, we're switching things up," says owner Tim Pieri. "I get 50 calls a week asking where people can go dance downtown, and there's just nowhere. The old Velvet and all that back in the day, they've all disappeared now. This is kind of a smaller-scale dance club."
Pieri says it'll still be "the old restaurant with the view" you know and love, just a little different. The restaurant area will be turned into Horizon by Harry's, an event space and nightclub, focusing on cocktail parties, high-end bar food and busting a move. Pieri made the decision a couple of months ago, and said after 22 years, it's high time for some cosmetic adjustments.
"We just wanted to gear it towards what's coming downtown," Pieri says. "People seem excited." He's updating the space and adding twenty or so flat screens, because it's 2012 and people don't want to dance unless they're also watching videos of people dancing. They'll be bringing in local DJs and some national acts, but apart from DJ Deception, he is mum on the specifics. "I'm 44 years old, you know, I don't know any names."
"The fine dining to me has seen its last days. We decided to go more casually for the food. All upscale bar food, all homemade stuff," Pieri says, adding that the traditional Harry's favorites like homemade lasagna and liver and onions will still be available. But he's glomming onto the burger renaissance and lowering the price point a smidge; prices will range from $8 to $18 instead of $20 and up for entrées. He's also bumping the nightly cover from $10 to a recession-friendly $5. They'll remain open during the renovations, and Pieri hopes the new concept will be finished the first week of March, though they're already testing out the new menu.
"The new menu is done. We did a great lunch business; yesterday we were sold out, so it's working out good."

You'd think that the brain trust at Anheuser-Busch InBev would have considered the margarita earlier. After all, the blend of tequila, lime juice and orange-flavored liqueur is one of the most popular mixed drinks in America.
But, no. When the brewery first looked south of the border for inspiration in 2007, it brought back the abomination that is Chelada -- a beer and clam juice concoction that none but the most iron-gutted Cholo could keep down.
Five years later it seems that AB InBev has finally wised up with a more quaffable brew known for now as "Test Beer L" but which will eventually be marketed as "Limerita" or "Lime-Rita."
Gut Check was at a party last weekend with one of the brewer's marketing reps when we were handed a can of the stuff. And we gotta admit that it tastes amazingly like a bona fide margarita. We've heard that the brewer is hoping to sell the drink at bars and restaurants that don't have a full liquor license and are therefore prohibited from pouring actual cocktails.
We only wish we had had some salt to sprinkle around the brim of our Test Beer L. And that we had kept the can. It's a classic.

If real estate records are any indication, NFL Hall-of-Famer Marshall Faulk appears to be in a financial tailspin.
Earlier today came news that a Florida condominium he owns is in foreclosure and that he owes the condominium association $21,982 in unpaid dues. And it doesn't end there. In 2010 the IRS placed a lien on his Florida condo, claiming the retired Rams running back owed $105,000 in unpaid federal income taxes.
Now Daily RFT has learned that a luxury condominium owned by Marshall Faulk in suburban St. Louis was sold last August for back taxes.
It's fairly common knowledge in St. Louis that the former Rams great lived in the lofts along Clayton Road in suburban Richmond Heights. St. Louis County real estate records show that a Marshall W. Faulk purchased a 10-room condominium in the building in 2002 for $692,000. (The football player's full name, for the record, is Marshall William Faulk.)
Real estate records also show that Faulk hadn't paid real estate taxes on the 2,500-square-foot condo since 2008. Last August the unit sold at tax auction for $25,600. Faulk owes $27,407 in back taxes on the property, according to the county.
Attempts to reach Faulk through his agent and his foundation were unsuccessful.
Under Missouri law, Faulk can reclaim ownership of the condominium provided he pays his back taxes within a year of the sale. He has until August 22 to do so.
Below is the record from the tax auction with the opening bid for Faulk's property going for $17,389. The buyer, BLH Associates, is a real estate investment firm.
It's unclear when Faulk moved out of the condominium. His last year with the Rams was in 2005. That same year he registered the condo as the taxing address for a 2004 Bentley and 2005 Maserati. By 2006 it seems Faulk had vacated the property as he registered zero automobiles to the address.
